CLASSICAL BALLET
Build your Strength, Core and Flexibility
About Classical Ballet
Classical Ballet is a specific technique that gives you a full understanding of your body. The class which focuses on building strength, flexibility and core stability is recommend for dancers if they wish to pursue dance as a career.
Why is Classical training so important for dancers?
Even if you are planning to focus on hip hop, jazz or tap – ballet training is essential to being a good dancer, especially if you plan to go professional. It provides the technique you need to flourish in all other dance styles. Below are some reasons why ballet is important.
- Ballet is the foundation for most forms of dance. Whatever you learn in ballet, it translates to values that can be used to pursue other forms of dance. The alignment and musicality it requires are only some examples of important qualities that are enhanced through ballet and are beneficial in most other dance styles.
- The development of discipline and dedication. Ballet technique is very specific and requires practice to improve. In most cases, the qualities of discipline and dedication translate themselves to other areas of life like work and school.
- Improving posture. Let’s face it: everything in ballet requires good posture. In time, the posture utilized in the studio translates to every part of a dancer’s life.
- Improving balance and flexibility. These are two large parts of ballet technique which, consequently, diminish the likelihood of injury in ballet, sports, and other dance forms.
- Increased agility. While often slow and graceful, ballet has its swift moments as well. Football players often attribute speed and agility to their experiences cross-training with ballet during the off season.
- Aural, visual, and kinetic stimulus. In layman’s terms: You learn to connect verbal commands and musical cues with exercise demonstrations and perform them in your body. Different parts of the brain are problem solving to perform the movements in time to the music.
- Confidence. Have you ever seen a five-year-old coming out of ballet class? He/she is most likely smiling and will gladly show you what has been learned. The confidence that ballet instils is not exclusive to the five-year-old demographic. The artistry, musicality, and grace of ballet are great confidence boosters.

DANCE ABILITIES
Boosting Confidence and Social Skills
About Dance Abilities
Dance aids with body awareness or a comfort with understanding of one’s abilities. Dance also helps with confidence and social skills. Interacting with others of like needs, in a non-judgmental setting, with a trained and patient instructor, enhances and encourages both social integration and confidence. On a more artistic note, dance allows creative expression, both individually and in a group setting, encourages exercise, and promotes healthier living. An argument can be made that dance stimulates the intellect and learning as well.
Throughout the class we incorporate dance steps to help cross-body movement, co-ordination, rhythm and musicality also assists in learning to concentrate, take turns, co-ordinate several body parts at the same time and counting music.
Keeping the class fun and enjoyable I like to finish of my class with a reward for their hard work. This involves sometimes a game or stickers!
